SOCIAL AND SOLIDARY CERTIFICATION IN THE REGION OF MISSÕES:
THE EXPERIENCE OF SWEET FLAVOR PROJECT

RESUMO
A certificação social é vista, atualmente, como instrumento através do qual agricultores podem incrementar suas receitas, mediante a conquista de mercados mais exigentes, sejam eles nacionais ou estrangeiros. Trata-se, não obstante, de um procedimento que envolve custos, invariavelmente incompatíveis com as condições em que operam estabelecimentos familiares. O artigo apresenta a metodologia e resultados de pesquisa apoiada pelo CNPq e desenvolvida na região das Missões, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Destaca as dificuldades de implementação e a opinião dos entrevistados quanto ao interesse de participar desse processo e suas expectativas em relação ao futuro.

ABSTRACT
The social certification is presently seen as an instrument through which farmers can increase their incomes by expanding to new markets, either national or foreign. Nevertheless, this venture involves costs, mostly incompatible with family farms operating conditions. The article presents the methodology and some outcomes of research project developed in the north-east region of Rio Grande do Sul state. This work highlight the difficulties of implementation and the farmers’ opinion both about their interest to engage in the project and their expectations regarding the future.
